Livingston RFC P7 were away on Sunday and visited Hawthornden in Bonnyrigg the home of Lasswade RFC in Mid Lothian. Their 1st 15 team is currently sitting top of the BT National League Division 3 - Same division as Livingston

Livingston RFC P7 were looking forward to another competitive match and being able to put what they have been learning in training into a competitive match situation.

It was decided to play 12 a side with 2 20 minute half's. The first 5 minutes there was very little difference between the teams with both looking to move the ball but with both sides putting in solid tackles the advantage went one way then the other. Livingston then started to put more pressure and with some fine tackling pressed Lasswade deep into their half. Livingston with ball in hand then started to pass the ball around and started to find space. In addition to this Livingston's rucking was going well. Livingston put a number of passes together and Toby de Mora crossed over the line only for his try to be disallowed due to him taking the ball into the dead ball area. However minutes later a similar move which meant the ball went through the hands of 4/5 players to the wing and Toby de Mora got the ball over the line and score the opening try. From then on Livingston continued to play some excellent rugby with some excellent tackling, passing the ball along the line and using the wings and were really competitive in the ruck - turning over on more than one occasion. This led to an additional 4 tries. Lasswade did manage to score a try, therefore the score going in at half time was 5 - 1 to Livingston with 2 tries from Jude Edwards, one from Matthew Hill and one from Ben Philp adding to Toby de Mora opening try.

The 2nd half was a similar story to the first with Livingston once again demonstrating some excellent running rugby, tackling and rucking. Lasswade continued to put in solid tackles which they had done throughout the match but were unable to get a foothold in the game due to Livingston running rugby and aggression in the tackle and rucks. Lasswade did get over the line twice but failed to score. The first they were driven back and on the second occasion, the player was held up by 3 Livingston players. Outstanding defence! A further 5 tries were scored by Livingston with Lasswade unable to score. Tries in the 2nd half came from Jude Edwards with 2, Ross Morrison with 2 and Ben Forrester.

The whole team played well and demonstrated some excellent rugby. The coaches were particularly pleased to see what we have been doing in training being executed in a competitive match. It was challenging to decide a man of the match. The decision was made to award it to 2 players - Toby de Mora and Ben Forrester.
